The Council of Barbadian Organizations Inc. (CBONY) was founded in 1983. It remained dormant from 1986 until its reestablishment on February 6, 1993.

CBONY is a cohesive body of diverse Barbadian organizations whose membership advances the nursing profession, responds to several humanitarian requests, preserves Barbados’ heritage, engages in cultural, social and sports programs, and readily contributes to educational goals and alumni obligations. CBONY currently comprises sixteen organizations including, life member Sons and Daughters of Barbados, West Indian Benevolent Society of America Inc., an 88-year-old organization and the first one to be known in New York. CBONY is a member of the National Organization of Barbadian Organizations (NABO).

For a nation as small as it is, Barbados has certainly made a name for itself. The 43th Anniversary Independence Celebration of Barbados, thus, is more than a mere dinner dance. It is an event designed to highlight the triumph of a nation which, due to its limited size and exportable resources, has still managed to effectively sustain a democratic system of government in such an effective way that it has literally become the envy of just about any other nation in the world.
