EVENTS

In addition to the charitable activities of member organizations, as an umbrella body, COBONY continues to make charitable contributions, such as:

» Donated Portable Toilets – to the Caribbean Cricket Benefits in the Canarsie area of Brooklyn for four weekends in the summers of 1998-2000, and this will continue every year.

» Contributes financial assistance to individuals in dire need of humanitarian assistance.

» Donated $1,000.00 to the 1998 St. Kitts Hurricane Relief Fund.

» Donated $500.00 US towards the purchase of a dialysis unit for the for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados 1998.

» Donated $5,000.00US towards the purchase of a cardiac catheterization unit for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados in 1994.

» Acknowledged publicly the contribution of Caribbean and New York radio personality Sandra Simmons by way of a presentation of a gift of appreciation.

» Participated in an International Children’s Day at the World Trade Center when a group of children, dressed in national colors carried the Barbados National Flag.

» Participated in the 1998 Back to Brooklyn Parade when it was represented by a contingent of children and adults from one of its member organizations URBONY.

» Organized a discussion/workshop on immigration issues in 1997. Panelists were L. Scott, Educator, M. Tucker and A. Edwards – Attorneys-at-Law, W. Grannum – Banker and former president of CBONY and I. Claire of Caribbean Immigrants Services.

» Organized a citizenship drive in association with Caribbean Immigrant Services and Empire Cricket Club. As a result of this drive many Barbadians applied for and obtained citizenship.

» Recently sent a donation of $1,000.00US to the Barbados Red Cross Association Public Lectures and mini workshops include:

» Protecting Personal Interest in case of Fire – Yvette Cox

» Upcoming changes in Educational standards – Dr. Pauline Bynoe

» The Pros and Cons of the Internet – Mr. Sam Taitt, Network Data Link

» Consular Services – Vice Consul, Selwin Hart of Barbados Consulate General of Barbados

» Financial and other donations to St.Thomas Episcopal Church as part of CBONY Benefits outreach program.

» Awarded Honorary Life Membership of CBONY to the 88-year-old Sons and Daughters of Barbados W.I. Benevolent Society of America – the first known Barbadian organization in New York for their outstanding contribution.
